Privacy Policy

OurWorld Chat (https://ourworldchat.duckdns.org) is a free chat community. This page explains what we collect and why. By using the site you agree to it.
What we collect
- Account details: your nickname and a securely hashed password (we cannot read it). Profile photo, status and "about" text if you add them.
- Messages: public chat messages, private messages (DMs), voice notes and pictures you send.
- Technical details: your IP address, a random device ID stored in your browser, and your browser and device type. We use these to stop abuse, spam and ban evasion.
- Activity: when you were last online, and a short record of visits (guests and members).
How long we keep it
- Private messages are deleted automatically after the number of days set by the site owner (between 1 and 30 days).
- Pictures sent in chat are deleted after 2 days. Voice notes are deleted after a few days.
- Visit records are deleted about 30 days after your last visit.
- Public chat messages are kept until they are removed by moderators or by automatic clean-up.
- Reports are kept for up to 90 days.
Who can see your messages
Public messages are visible to everyone in the room. Private messages are visible only to you and the other person. Site staff do not read private messages, except when someone reports a message. A report sends the reported message and a few messages before it to the moderators, so they can act on it. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted.
Cookies and storage
We store a login token and a random device ID in your browser (local storage and one small cookie). They keep you logged in and help us block banned devices. We do not use advertising cookies.
Other services
The site runs on third-party hosting and database services. If you open a YouTube video or a GIF or picture link inside chat, your browser loads it from that provider, which may see your IP address. We do not sell your information.
Your choices
- You can hide your last-seen time in your profile.
- You can change your password, profile photo and status at any time.
- To have your account and data deleted, contact us at the address below.
Age limit
OurWorld Chat is for adults aged 18 and over only. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please do not use the site. If you believe a minor is using it, contact us and we will remove the account and its data.
